Markets Whipsaw on Iran Headlines as Traders Eye a Deal

It was not a clean week on Wall Street.

Markets spent most of the week absorbing turbulence from the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict. The Dow dropped over 900 points on Tuesday as Trump threatened fresh strikes. Wednesday brought more selling. The S&P 500 fell 1.62%, and the Nasdaq dropped 1.98% on Wednesday alone as traders reacted to Trump's warning to Iran that it had "taken too long" to negotiate.

The SpaceX IPO priced at $135 per share this week, adding another layer of excitement to a market that is trying to find its footing. Oil remained elevated on Strait of Hormuz concerns. Energy costs are feeding into broader inflation anxiety. And the Fed has not moved rates.

This is the kind of macro environment where investors start looking for assets that are disconnected from tech concentration risk and geopolitical noise. Hard assets. Real deposits. Strategically located resources.

That is where GRML comes in.

Greenland Mines Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRML) operates two divisions: Natural Resources and Cell and Gene Therapy. The Natural Resources division is the core story. It centers on the Skaergaard Project in Southeast Greenland, one of the largest undeveloped palladium, gold, and platinum deposits on earth.

What Caught My Attention

On May 20, 2026, GRML signed a definitive agreement to acquire Neo North Star Resources, Inc., the owner of the Sarfartoq Rare Earths Project in southwest Greenland. The deal is structured at $35 million total: $20 million in cash and $15 million in newly issued GRML shares. Sarfartoq is a carbonatite-hosted deposit strongly enriched in neodymium and praseodymium. These are magnet rare earths. The materials that go inside EV motors, defense systems, and wind turbines. The materials that China currently controls via export restrictions it has been tightening throughout 2025 and 2026.

One company now holds two advanced critical mineral projects in Greenland under one Nasdaq ticker. Palladium and gold at Skaergaard. Neodymium-praseodymium rare earths at Sarfartoq. That is not a coincidence.
